Lhyfe, a dynamic start-up from Nantes, is at the forefront of green hydrogen production as it renews its ambitions for a carbon-free energy future. While other industrial projects seem to be stagnating, Lhyfe unveils concrete achievements with four operational units in France and a fifth under construction. Through a clever combination of regional, national, and European support, the young company is firmly committed to the path of industrial decarbonization and sustainable mobility. These initiatives illustrate a significant breakthrough in the emerging renewable energy sector.
Lhyfe, a Nantes-based start-up, continues to bring its green hydrogen production units online in France, thus defying the current gloom surrounding large gigafactory projects in the country. Leveraging its expertise, Lhyfe has already established several sites, with capacities ranging from 300 kg to 2 tonnes of hydrogen per day, in Vendée, Loire-Atlantique, Haute-Garonne, and Morbihan. By partnering with European and regional partners, it is set to inaugurate a new facility in Isère capable of producing up to 4 tonnes per day using powerful electrolyzers, thereby supporting industrial decarbonization.

Togglelhyfe and its new green hydrogen production units
Lhyfe, a key player in the field of green hydrogen, is dynamically progressing towards a decarbonized economy in France. Recently, several production units have been established, notably in Bouin, Croisic, Bessières, and Buléon. These facilities, capable of producing between 300 kg and 2 tonnes of hydrogen per day, reflect Lhyfe’s commitment to the energy transition and the strengthening of national capacities. In partnership with major industry names like H2 MOBILITY Deutschland, Lhyfe is asserting itself not only as a pioneer but also as a preferred partner for large distribution chains.
ambitious project in isère for lhyfe
Lhyfe’s development strategy is embodied in an ambitious project in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, on the former Ascometal site in Cheylas. Scheduled to be operational in 2026, this facility will rely on 10 MW of electrolyzers supplied by Plug, an American specialized company. With the support of Europe, through the Just Transition Fund and the regional Zero Emission Valley project, this unit aims to produce 4 tonnes of green hydrogen per day. Intended to supply both Alpine industries and tourist infrastructures, this project articulates Lhyfe’s ecological vision in harmony with local development (source: more information about Lhyfe).
international expansion and diversification of lhyfe’s activities
Both in France and abroad, Lhyfe is pursuing its expansion initiative. In Germany, hydrogen production units are being inaugurated in Tübingen and Baden-Württemberg, dedicated respectively to trains and industry. These sites allow the company to strengthen its position in the European market with varied capacities ranging from 400 kg to 4 tonnes per day. Lhyfe also plans new facilities in Tarragona, Spain, and Wallsend, UK, thereby expanding access to green hydrogen. This diversification of locations underscores Lhyfe’s ambition to establish itself as an essential supplier in the renewable hydrogen sector (refer to other developments in hydrogen).
